Surrounding areas still boast Thai cuisine, but the major player of authentic Thai cuisine (and Asian Fusion) in Canton is riding solo and strong.

With the loss of Thai restaurant Pataya, Canton, Ohio has one major Thai restaurant remaining: Sukho Thai at 4430 Belden Village Street NW Canton, Ohio 44718 - with the entrance in rear off Dressler Rd - situated in between wing proprietors BW3 and a Chinese Buffet featuring sushi that does not taste like mediocre all-you-can-eat buffet sushi. So Sukho Thai's location is strong considering its neighbors.

Ethnic Cuisine Presence is Strong in Canton, but Still Limited

There are other delightful ethnic restaurants to choose from, right in time for the Hall of Fame summer festivities, such as but not limited to: Bombay Sitar (Indian), Golden Valley (Uzbeki & South Asian), Sahara Grille (Middle Eastern). There are decidedly more options in the cuisine areas of Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, and Italian establishments all with varying degrees of quality, pricing, and ease of location. Sukho Thai has several seating options, including booths, tables, a sushi bar, as well as a rear room with a bar and more private seating, although the latter two are rarely seen in use.

Menu Highlights are Affordable and Memorable

The menu also contains Chinese specialty dishes, but the Thai items are more plentiful, as well as more memorable. The creamy spicy crab appetizer lives up to the description, with two full-bodied, deep fried crabs surrounding a bed of shredded white radish, topped with an orange-tinted spicy sauce. The Thai coconut soup, while plentiful, could be paired with a non-spicy tossed salad (the spicy is very spicy and not usually ordered by most American clientele) to cut the bite. There are few entrees over $16.00, with the majority priced between $9.00 and $13.00.

The atmosphere is more subdued than many other local establishments of any type of cuisine, with soft lighting, darker colors, and a flat screen television with the volume turned low. A fish tank is not the centerpiece, say as it is with the zen waterfall, colorful koi pond entrance greeting from local chain Wasabi, but rather a gentle accompaniment to the peaceful atmosphere.

Location in Reference to Hall of Fame Festivities and Activities

Sukho Thai, as previously mentioned, is situated in between a sports bar hotspot and an oft-frequented, locally popular buffet. While the parking is ample, the restaurant is located in a high traffic area, the same general vicinity as the mall and other shops, and quite near the Stark County satellite campus of Kent State University where many visitors trek for food fests, balloon fests, as well as corporate and cultural events during the peak of HOF events. In any case, ample parking is available for all locals and out-of-town visitors alike.

Note: This restaurant was reviewed again in April of 2011 in order to maintain the highest standards for quality control of this article.
